Fertilizers

The EU Fertilizing product regulation (EC) No 2019/1009, opens the European market for recycled fertilisers; and also for organic fertilisers, biostimulants, composts and digestate, which to date could only be sold under different national legislations. The new Regulation provides strict rules on safety, quality and labelling requirements for all fertilisers to be traded freely across the EU. Producers will need to demonstrate that their products meet those requirements before affixing the CE mark. This Regulation does not apply to products which are not CE marked when made available on the market.

How to register?

  1. Determine the registration requirements: Familiarize yourself with the specific requirements and guidelines outlined in the Fertilising Products Regulation. This includes understanding the product categories, labeling requirements, and the documentation needed for registration.

  2. Prepare the necessary documentation: Gather all the required documentation and information for your fertilizer product, such as product composition, intended use, efficacy data, safety data, and environmental impact assessments.

  3. Identify the appropriate registration authority: Determine the competent authority responsible for fertilizer registrations in your country or region.

  4. Submit the application: Follow the specified format and provide all the required information and supporting documentation.

  5. Product assessment: The competent authority will review your application and assess the product's compliance with the FPR requirements.

  6. Compliance verification: The registration authority may request additional information or clarification during the assessment process.

  7. Decision and registration: Once the assessment is complete, the competent authority will make a decision regarding the registration of your fertilizer product.

  8. Post-registration obligations: After registration, you may have additional responsibilities, such as ensuring compliance with ongoing reporting requirements, updating labels or packaging as necessary, and maintaining records related to the product's composition and use.

It's essential to consult the specific guidelines and regulations applicable to your country or region, as requirements may vary. Engaging with a regulatory expert or seeking guidance from the competent authority can be helpful throughout the registration process.
